TW!!: New Person Big Thoughts :PPP
a thing about most people that I'll never honestly understand is this idea that you can just opt out of politics or just decide to not be a part of it in general. the irrevocable truth that most people really need to swallow is that no matter what you are ALWAYSSS intertwined with politics. It's in our day to day life and soul, even if you don't realise it.
Not only that but deciding "hey I don't really wanna get into politics that's overly complicated" is so stupid of a move, everything is political yo, maybe you don't even realise it but politics are intertwined into our very environment, just deciding to stay out of it is like deciding to walk into a world full of complications while completely BLIND !! Politics are evident in your social movement, in your media, in the house you're living in! to just go 'eh nah I'm not really into that' is already you implementing yourself into politics, but worse. You taking the "back seat" and the passive route is basically equivalent to you watching as people get hurt and not doing anything about it, except you can, you are right there it isn't happening behind a glass screen, and you have a say, an influence, in what's happening around you. Through talking about it to the people around you, through voting, through pushing campaigns or spreading the word.
Politics changes lives but people can change politics, so dear god never meet me and say "I'm not into politics" when it isn't just about law or international relations or crime, its about basic human rights.

now I'm not gonna say political activism is a bad thing, and it's definitely important to keep up with matters regarding literal human rights within the country you reside in. But for me personally it's just that politics is very large and very complicated in scope. And I feel that there is a LOT of knowledge that is required to be competent in discussing it effectively.
It doesn't help that admitting ignorance on political policies is seen as bad, so you have a lot of people who don't know what they're talking about sharing opinions based on some twitter screenshot. I think it should be okay to not know everything/have an opinion on everything. Rather focus on what you personally care about and be open to discuss without shaming others.
except for stuff regarding human rights. don't think there is much nuance about if someone deserves to live.
Thanks for your insight :DD!!
I understand where you're coming from considering political discussions are definitely a spectrum of twitter screenshots to actual debates and I your opinion about why people would rather not discuss it is completely valid!
I mostly wrote this from a country where political talk is either shamed or makes you problematic so my general vibes when writing this was thinking about the issue as to how backing out of politics as a whole, not just political discussions, is genuinely a problematic thing because even if you don't want to discuss it, its a part of life and I don't think it should ever be an option to stay ignorant on something so important!! Especially since the more and more people go "I dont care about politics" the more and more normalized it is to just not care unfortunately :((
I wasn't truly trying to shame everyone regarding how knowledgeable they are about this matter, simply say that Politics shouldn't be something you never touch or have this insight not to care about since it isnt just about Legislation but also about humankind as a whole. However I still believe my point stands under the idea that you shouldn't take a backseat about things such as this matter when your own life and comfort is at stake depending on how you go about it, any movement you make regarding politics is an important one, even speaking to your friend about your views on social movements is very important to do since it can be influential to them and to their other friends!!
Overall thank you so much for your perspective and comment on this blog alongside your politenss :))

Oh for sure I agree completely then. You should care about politics because everything is political to some degree. I just wanted to emphasize that there shouldn't be an expectation to have a firm, unwavering opinion on every single issue. Staying informed and sharing your thoughts, even if they are "wrong", is reallllly important. I guess I'm basically saying keep an open mind.
And thank you as well!
