In a time where I live in a country that in its current state is comparable to the very thing I was taught was wrong, it is important to remember what exactly your beliefs are and hold them close. In the end it's all you will have, morals make the person and you have to decide who that person is. How does a country fall from such grace, how do we fight against facism and dictators, and we call ourselves the land of the free when we are forcing citizens out of their homes, censoring journalism about the genocide in gaza, allowing crimes of hatred in our own communities. It is shameful and I feel a sense of dread when I hear our anthem, for I know it is a lie. We are not united under God, we divided our people. And the way the phrase “with liberty and justice for all” feels like poison coming out of my mouth, because I know there is nothing that has been happening that I can call justice. My flag has become a symbol of hatred. And the very thing that America was built on has crumbled. We can not say this country still has freedom in its core when our president says a person's worth is determined by a piece of paper and that hardworking people who uprooted their lives and moved hours away from there country to find opportunities for future generations are nothing but aliens, and treat them as criminals, as low lifes and less thans. Never did I think I would see the day that such extreme dehumanization would be taking place in my own government. Whiten my 16 years of living i have became completely disgusted to what america has become, we turn on our neighbors, we allow the deaths of trans and other lgbtq members to happen without justice, we close our hearts to the needy and instead of fixing the homelessness problem we outlaw it and destroy what little these people have, we allow teens to get access to drugs like fentanyl which kills millions a year, our federal workers opens fire on reporters and protesters. Our president passes tariffs on goods to the point that a low wage job can only pay for a week's worth of groceries. This is not the America I was taught to love, this is not a country I pledge to. And yet… I have hope. I have hope that one day i will be able to stand for the pledge and not feel guilty for i will know that what i say is genuine. I believe that one day there will be liberty and justice for all. But we have to fight for this future, we have to fight for America to continue standing, and I will fight. I will fight to have that unamerican traitor out of office, to have ICE out of our cities, and to have a government that cares for its people. Not a government where human rights are treated as optional, where one human is less than another, and where profit is put before people. What is happening right now is much bigger than you and me so we must stand hand interlocked and speak as a whole so that we can secure the future of america for the children of the future so that they can grow up with equal treatment and never have to experience the feeling of the government meant to protect them turning a blind eye to unfair treatment and systematic abuse of power.
So stand hand in hand with the citizens of america and fight for the rights to coexist and close your heart to media hate speech and propaganda convincing you to hate the people that you share this earth with, that your children go to the same school as, the people who shop at the same supermarket as you, and to the people that are just trying to live a normal life getting jobs, celebrating birthdays, mourning losses, and laughing with family and friends. As long as we can do that there will never be a king in our america.
