I hate how capitalism is becoming sooo big. Like businesses are using literally any method to advertise their products. Any internet trend is almost immediately turned into a marketing scheme. Ads are everywhere. Not just billboards and newspapers, EVERYWHERE. Even in services you pay for, you still are subjected to a constant barrage of advertisements (ehem ehem HULU). Businesses raise their prices because they know you'll still pay for it. Having one or two lip glosses isn't enough, you should have a whole collection of lippies! Didn't you know that your water bottle sucks? You should get a new one! Your clothes don't match your aesthetic, throw them out and buy a new wardrobe! And that perfume is too summery, you should get a new scent for fall. Are you too lazy to workout and eat healthy? Just abuse this medication for diabetics, causing it's prices to skyrocket by like 300%. Don't worry about the consequences, just buy it. Who cares if it ends up in a landfill, you won't be around when the Earth is completely destroyed anyways. It's such a detrimental mindset, making the poor poorer and the rich richer. But before you can notice that the billionares' wallets keep getting thicker, they blame it on underprivileged social classes.

Capitalism has been huge but the internet has been useful for it and consumerism (pretty much accelerating its social impacts), but also I think de-regulation has been happening the last couple of decades and we’ve begun to realize it more

what do you mean by "becoming"?
Truth, capitalism has unfortunately dominated the world for quite some time now. It can only get more depraved, violent, and ineffective at meeting human needs on a mass scale as it desperately tries to prevent itself from bursting at the seams.

Capitalism has always been gnawing at our society, but now more than ever it seems that people have lost their ability to think for themselves and consider before they purchase. People seem to slowly becoming easier to influence. Aside from that, since products continue to be made quicker than ever before and fashion trends are becoming "outdated" in hardly months, we no longer have an understanding of how long products should last. Brands are making things crappy quality on purpose because they know that people are just going to buy a new thing when it breaks.
