hi everyone, I came on here today to talk about something that I urge you VERY strongly to look into. On March 8th, 2025 a Columbia University Palestinian student named Mahmoud Khalil was unlawfully and illegally detained by DHS. Mahmoud was what is known as a lawful permanent resident, also known as having a green card. This means he had every right to be in this country. After a protest at Columbia University, he and his pregnant wife were accosted by DHS while coming home from a dinner. He was detained and thrown into an unmarked vehicle. They proceeded to neglect his needs and for days he was denied a bed to sleep on nor a blanket to shield himself from the cold hard floor. This speaks volumes as to how the U.S government is going to handle deportation. It is a disgrace and completely unlawful. This man was detained for having political beliefs. But we cannot back down during this time of fear. For if we back down, it will only allow them to strengthen. Get stronger, get louder. If you have privilege, use it.
I recommend you read his beautiful, powerful, and touching letter written from the detention center here.
thank you for taking the time to read this. Palestine will be free no matter what they want to believe.
