How to Vote by Mail in NYC

Can’t make it to the polls in person? You can still vote in the 2025 mayoral election by absentee ballot.

Who Can Vote by Mail in NYC?

You qualify if you:

  • Are sick or physically unable to vote in person

  • Are away from NYC on Election Day

  • Are caring for someone who is ill

  • Are concerned about COVID-19 or another health risk

How to Request Your Absentee Ballot

  1. Apply online at vote.nyc

  2. Or mail in an application (must be postmarked at least 10 days before the election)

How to Fill It Out and Return It

  • Follow instructions exactly to avoid disqualification

  • Use the inner ballot envelope, then seal it inside the outer envelope

  • Sign the back of the outer envelope

Deadline: Your absentee ballot must be postmarked by Election Day and received by the Board of Elections within 7 days.

You can also:

  • Drop it off at any early voting site

  • Drop it at a polling site on Election Day
