this is something i've been super interested in recently, after finding out most people view their memories in 1st person. the vast majority of my memories are solidly in 3rd person, usually from the pov floating above myself. only recently (the last few months) have i begun to form some memories in 1st person.i have a dissociative disorder (ddd) and cptsd, which i'm guessing is the reason for my 3rd person memories, but recently i've been doing way better mentally and i feel that links to some 1st person memories for the first time ever???
does anyone else experience memories in 3rd person? and/or has a dissociative disorder or ptsd that impacts the way you form memories and remember things??? i'm very interested in the brain right now. in general i would just love to hear any thoughts and opinions on this. like i said i'm really interested in brain and behavior
edit: i'm pretty sure most of my dreams are 1st person though????? i dunno what that means/implies. lmk what you think!!

I agree that 3rd person memories may be related to something disassociative or something that impacts memories. My only 3rd person memories are when I was young (3-6) and my mind fills in the blanks for missing information. Most of my memories from 2018-2021 are in third person but I was pretty depressed and felt like I was watching someone live a life rather than living
feeling like you're watching someone live a life sounds like depersonalization to me, so having 3rd person memories from that time makes sense. and i hope things have gotten better since 2021!
