ROUGE-FP is a fun spin on *the* original rogulike and you should play it.

ROUGE-FP is a spin on classic game called "Rouge"- the first ever rougelike. It makes the game more accessible by adding many things, one of the most noticeable, as the title suggests, First Person mode. How that works? Once you move, everything else moves too, so game matches your speed. Though, if you happened on the other end of a floor while exploring, you can enable double-time speed to get to an exit much quicker (good god, i would love that irl).

Making original ASCII work as a texture of an object, rather than being the object itself, mixed with CRT filter, makes for quite a tasty atmosphere- and makes game more "modern".

Though, for those who prefer it, you can switch to "standard" textures or go full retro-mode.

What makes ROUGE-FP more fun is ability to play with a keyboard+ mouse or even gamepad, where in original you could only use your keyboard (and remember which key does what).

Along with added music, you can just sink into that old-school atmosphere of crawling through dungeons for Amulet of Yendor.


If you feel like wanting to relax, and have a spare change in your Steam Wallet, I would highly recommend ROUGE-FP. It's a good, modern take on something that might be unplayable, only because it's so old.
