at least for me.
whenever i have a crush on someone, i suddenly become more open, receptive of new ideas and experiences, more curious about basically anything that interests them and i really dig deep into those little interests. if they speak a different language, i try to learn some of it; if they are from another country, i try to learn as much as i can about there; if they really like some music i’ve never even heard of, i listen to it and variations of it until i like something.
i was thinking about this the other day, and realized much of the random knowledge i have is because i liked someone, here’s some of the things i’ve learned over time:
- in the ivory coast there’s a traditional dish made with rotten cassava
- the name ‘shoegaze’ is due to the fact that the guitar players kept looking down (towards their shoes) to change the settings and the effects on the synth pedal
- hermetic philosophy
- there are many types of entities in candomblé and umbanda (african-originated religions) and each one requires a different kind of greeting
- a bit of german
- a bit of french
- toothpaste scratches silver, so it’s not good to clean it with toothpaste
- a little bit about lebanon
it’s quite interesting thinking about this, because most of the time i don’t put in the effort just for them to like me, i do it because i really want to learn more about them, yk? i want to understand their tastes, their way of thinking and their background.
with that said, i can state that although i couldn’t care less about soccer, curre i know whenever their fav team loses or wins each game. (i really like them)
