Simpsons S17 E21 is similar to America today.

while “The Monkey Suit” is mainly about religious doctrine, i think it definitely still fits to a Part of what's happening in the U.S. today.

sure, Evolution/Creationism may not be the main points of the Christian Reps (here short for Republicans), there was a clip in the episode of a “unisex bathroom” which points to gender/sex discourse.

a.k.a. the Reps' hatred of LGBTQIA+ and especially trans people, since they pride themselves in being “Christian” and using said religion to perpetuate their bigotry.

the earlier mentioned “The Simpsons” episode also points out how communities can weaponise their beliefs (whether it'd be religious or other) to influence or even help create new laws that infringe upon the freedom of speech of the “opponents”/the people who have different opinions from said communities. Lisa and her group of “nerds” were seemingly the only people who cared about that, which also highlighted group-think (how Marge avoided her question about science vs. belief; how Pr. Skinner told the class to ignore Lisa's attempts to make the kids think about it for more than 5 seconds, etc.) and how easy it can be for the community of Christians to control the narrative and such.

real life examples? well, the literal plans to destroy the Department of Education, the “gay books make kids trans/gay/wtvtf” fear-mongering, the  “the bible said XYZ!!!!!” thing and “we care about kids!!!” (meanwhile having a LOT of pedos and other awful people in their spaces [and i mean this as a lot of Republicans who got money and power are weird towards kids, not that Reps inherently are predators or sth.]; not letting KIDS get abortions; not giving them proper education [general AND esp sex ed], and so on...), not being allowed to have inclusive language in classes (ref. to that one lady who was interviewed about being asked to remove a couple of posters that were inclusive towards POC and the other just had words on rainbow background), and so on (again. we'd be here all day if not.).

but then again, what do I know. i just watch things and think.

have a nice night, fellows.
