I think that the main problem I have with proshippers is the word itself. An internet ship is inherently a romanticization of a relationship, which isn't necessarily what a proship is. A proship is 3 things: a romanticization of a relationship, a way for victims of sexual crimes to project their experience into an environment that they are in control of, and an exploration of toxic relationships.
the first one is the worst kind of proshipping, its romanticising things like rape, and sexual assault and abuse, so I wont discuss it because it is inherently wrong.
The second, which I'm gonna make up a term for purely out of the sake of reading comprehension, is projectshipping. it's taking an already very well known coping mechanism and projecting it onto fictitious characters. I think where it gets tricky is the execution of it. I see edits and fanfics of these kinds of 'projectships' from an outside perspective, and it just seems like a proship. What I'm getting at is the execution is usually done in poor taste, and leads to people misunderstanding what they're trying to convey. if you are a 'projectshipper' reading this I would suggest that you try to make a better habit of expressing this, also make sure that you're doing it in a healthy way, cause this can often lead to people both thinking abuse is normal, and also certain people seeing you as vulnerable and possibly trying to develop a relationship with you with bad intent, it can also become an unhealthy way to cope.
then there's the third version, which I think is the least morally ambiguous. this is, I believe more commonly referred to as 'darkshipping', or 'comshipping', but I'm going to refer to it as proshipping. this has some of the same problems as projectshipping, but toned down. I don't think this version is necessarily wrong, cause if it was then any representation of abusive relationships would be considered immoral. my point still stands when it comes to the execution of it, but that's my only complaint, and I think usually the execution is fine.
anyways, in conclusion, proship is a stupid term used to describe a wide umbrella of things with varying moral issues. I don't support the romanticisation of abusive relationships, but when I see people complaining about proshipper's I think "this is just so much of a non issue". I do think that there is merit to people calling people out on being pedophiles, and romanticizing/promoting gross things, but other than those people, this is simply a community with some problematic issues.
its pretty hard to decide what is and isn't directly wrong because there are a lot of factors that go into this community that cant be shown in a 30 second tiktok, so next time you see one of these people and they don't seem to be doing anything that's inherently wrong, just scroll. they'll grow out of it anyway.
I'm not actually super educated on this topic, so if you want to say something or object to anything, I'm fine with that. I'm not trying to say you're opinion is wrong, so if you want, please do comment, so we can start a constructive conversation about this. also as a side note: I am a child not a political expert, if anything said here is wrong/immoral, be aware my brain is still in development.

From what I know, proshipping was supposed to be anti-harassment community, mainly for people 18+. Just shipping whatever you want, no matter if it's toxic or not. Of course, as long as it was only fiction. And it was like that, until at some point misinformation started spreading around and kids got into the community.
