Phone ban in my state

This is kind of a rant because I'm so peeved about this, but my state's governor (I'll just call them Mr. Evil) is banning phones in all of the schools in our state. Not to improve education and test scores (because obviously that would be so silly) (we're like... 49th in education or something) but to improve mental health. This COULD be a valid argument, except any mental health issues are due to the carelessness of the state and school board when it comes to bullying and harassment in and out of school.

But here's where it gets good... For context, I'm in band. We go to competitions that are out of town !FREQUENTLY! and might be going out of state next year. Mr. Evil has decided that phones will not only be banned in school, but at SCHOOL RELATED ACTIVITIES, meaning that there will be no phones at prom, hoco, football games, competitions, away games, club meetings, practices, concerts, etc.

So obviously nobody is thrilled about this, and since the bill has already passed, there's really nothing to do about this.

I also forgot to mention that this will make semester tests MANDATORY, which interrupts everyone's year due to the band's Disney Land trip at the end of the school year every three years. (This Disney trip also counts as a school-related activity, so obviously my band director is PISSED)

Not to mention, students get more than half of their school news from their phones. Some students have glucose monitors on their phones for their diabetes. This bill is overall, problematic.
