So today my school had a walkout due to amount of deportations of immigrants that has been happening as of recently. I did find it weird how the school just said for 15 minutes we would be able to do it and to stay within school grounds, but then have to go back in the building if you didn't want any penalties to happen such as ISS. It was probably so that the teenagers that they're responsible for don't go too far away and to save face in case the media came to our area and uploaded on the news. Like, is this even a walkout, or is it just some activity that we could participate in and have our moment?
To be fair, it was extremely disorganized since it was planned within a single day and people didn't agree on where to go after protesting outside the school (or they'd just go home). It was nice to be with everyone there though, and it really did something for us regarding moral and the immigration issue. We (the students) aren't really motivated in anything in general when if it is in school, so people really doing this was great. There were also students who already had family be taken away, so to see a lot of support by a load of students must've meant a lot to them.
Initially, I thought that this wouldn't have done anything for anyone other than to hang out outside of the school for the sake of being outside of class, but a little hope raised for the people who were already affected by ICE is something.
This was more of a mini yap session from how those few minutes went for me. I do know that others chose to stay outside past the time limit (massive respect), but I feel like if they were going to stay outside, they could've spread outside of the school and closer to the main section of the city to further spread the cause.
Also the eggs are so expensive like damn I'm just tryna eat.
