God.
So much has happened since the day of Donald Trump's inauguration. I've been meaning to make a blog post about everything that has happened so far for a while, but I have just not had the energy to do so. I will write about the things that scare me the most about this administration down below.
One of the things that scares me the most about this current administration is the fact that Elon Musk, who was unelected, is taking over the Treasury Department in what I have come to believe is a coup.
Another thing that scares me about this administration is how Donald Trump has been talking about Gaza. Today (2/4/25), Donald Trump said this: "The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too." He also stated that all Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip should be "relocated" (a.k.a. ethnically cleansed). He said all this shortly after meeting with none other than Benjamin Netanyahu who, like the evil man he is, smiled as Trump described his plan to "take over" Gaza. If Trump does what he said he wants to do to the Gaza Strip, then it is likely that the genocide of Palestinians living in Gaza will only ramp back up again.
A third thing that scares me about this administration is how it has erased trans people from government websites everywhere. This is the thing that perhaps scares me the most, because an attack on the trans community is an attack on the entire LGBTQ+ community (of which I am a part of). One example of this trans erasure from government websites is the fact that the State Department has eliminated references to transgender travelers from its travel advisories, instead opting to use the term "LGB" when discussing queer travelers. This enrages me, as the LGBTQ+ community would not be where it is today without trans people. There is no LGB without the T!
Speaking of erasure of things from government websites, an article from the New York Times states this: "More than 8,000 web pages across more than a dozen U.S. government websites have been taken down" since January 31st. Here is a link to the article so you can read up on which government web pages were taken down: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/02/upshot/trump-government-websites-missing-pages.html
To go back to trans issues for a minute, the language that the Trump administration is using in its executive orders and messages to government bodies to describe trans people is extremely dehumanizing and very concerning. According to the article "CDC grant funding for 'gender ideology' programs is 'permanently terminated', HHS says", The Department of Health and Human Services "directed recipients of grant funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to immediately halt all programs, personnel and activities related to 'gender ideology'". An email sent out by the HHS stated this: "You must immediately terminate, to the maximum extent, all programs, personnel, activities, or contracts promoting or inculcating gender ideology at every level and activity, regardless of your location or the citizenship of employees or contractors, that are supported with funds from this award." The use of the term "gender ideology" is very concerning, as it implies that trans people do not exist and only an "ideology" does. This language is extremely dehumanizing, and if you don't see that I honestly don't know what to say to you.
What we are currently seeing in the U.S. is the dehumanization of trans people and the erasure of trans people from official records. This dehumanization and erasure is inherently genocidal, and it makes me fear for the future of trans people (and LGBTQ+ people more broadly) in this country.
Finally, another thing that scares me very deeply about this administration is the mass deportations by ICE that it has been talking about carrying out. Some immigrants have already been deported by ICE, and ICE agents have been spotted at various places across the country. Trump has floated using Guantanamo Bay, which is known for being a site where torture took place in the 2000s, to hold immigrants for a while. Housing immigrants in Guantanamo Bay would just make Guantanamo Bay into a concentration camp. I feel like Elon Musk would be really into making Guantanamo Bay into a concentration camp, as he did do a Nazi salute on Trump's inauguration day, but I digress.
There are a lot of other things that have occured since Trump was inaugurated, but I just wanted to highlight some of the things that have been scaring me the most about this administration. If you've read this blog post all the way to the end, then I assume that you share the same concerns as I do. If that is the case, it's nice to know that there are others out there that feel the same way about all the things I have mentioned above.
