American 'slacktivism' on Tiktok

As someone who comes from [RETRACTED], a country notoriously famous for its successful, albeit violent revolution, I can't help but feel increasingly disappointed by the continuous slacktivism I witness Americans participate in on Tiktok. All the content about 'cute winter boots' and anti-facial recognition makeup makes me cringe. I do not understand why Americans cannot successfully mobilize and organize protests.

Of course, Americans lack the necessary experience, which is why perhaps one should not judge them roughly when observing the current progression of events. On the other hand, with the severity of recent events in American politics, one cannot help but wonder why Americans aren't capable of more drastic, may I say radical measures.

Although I do realize the importance of applications and implications of social media in modern revolutionary activism (I literally study it), I cannot help but think Americans are afraid and resistant of any proactive participation. I am aware of the fact that some protests have emerged across the USA, but I could easily predict that those have been organized and put in place by people who have already been proactive in American politics before: first-hand victims of American freedom-restricting policies, lobbyists, etc. Needless to say, that is obviously not enough. I find it (for lack of a better word) pathetic how some TikTok users attempt to mobilize by calling for the mass blocking of Meta and Facebook accounts on TikTok. I hope Americans remember that true revolution transcends digital spaces and until all of you figure out how to mobilize IRL, you will not witness any change in your country.

Perhaps Americans lack the historical knowledge of other successful revolutionary movements to be able to recreate one in the USA. Hence, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of education and general knowledge. Stop hyper-fixating on the current political situation in the USA and look into the history of revolutions to get more context. Look at the ten stages of genocide and stages of democratic backsliding; study successful revolutions in other countries; ask for advice from people currently participating in anti-government protests: ask Georgians, Ukrainians, Slovaks, Palestinians, etc.

'cute winter boots' search on Tiktok will not save your nation. Weird anti-facial recognition makeup won't, too.

Perhaps I'll write about it in more detail later, possibly with some helpful resources, now I'm just venting. The whole world is watching the USA collapse, and Americans are doing close to nothing. My personal advice to Americans would be to dismantle all your current knowledge on politics and look outward. Watch other countries. Ask them for advice. God knows we are all here ready to help you guys out. After all, even Biden warned you. He warned your army, too. Do not sit and do nothing.

I agree with everything here!! As a non-american it is interesting to watch how there is a call for change but no movement whatsoever. The "cute winter boots", weird makeup, blocking meta and hiding secret messages saying "kill the rich" in comment sections is feeble. If they want change, they're going to have to do a bit more than that. Americans also need to realise that revolution does not look like the Hunger Games.
