i know that people already knows this but i just wanna yap for some minutes alr.
i think old punk, the REAL punk its not longer a thing nowadays, all the "punks" left are white, cis AND rich people who think they are different for dressing like mall punks and saying on the internet that theyre punks while listening to Taylor Swift or some crap like that.
Plus some of them think that its just for the aesthetic or the music, I was on tiktok the other day and i saw a boys profile, he was punk and sharing his political opinions. AND ONE GIRL COMMENTED "I rlly like ur style but you shoudnt say things like that, people will think that all punks are political!!!" LIKE GIRL, thats the WHOLE point of being punk, and somehow people still doesnt know about it.
i want graffitis back, i want to see whole ass group of punks walking on the streets again, i want to watch the news and see injustices being resolved without having to BEG a cop to do something, I WANT OLD PUNK BACK.

I do agree that punk has certainly become more grossly mainstreamed in a way of people simply using it for aesthetic purposes and saying shit like "you can be punk and conservative" which puts my brain in a twist how people think that is possible.
But I do promise there are certainly more of us still out here, just sucks how many punks can get overshadowed by rich priviliged assholes who think have an anarchy tattoo owning a mansion with zero political drive is what punk is.
But despite all that, I have also seen a sprout of more old proper punk people both in older and younger people which is cool asf to see! It is nice seeing those who do keep up the ideology, movement etc afloat and not the "aesthetic only, no politics" bs some people try n morph it to. Just have to keep the drive going and more will come to light and show!!
I live in a small town and am noticing more and more punks around which gives a sense of warmth to my heart knowing although there are those who are doing it simply for the aesthetics and posting dumb shit like it on tiktok, there are also more of those who truly hold punk to heart and help spread that community instead.

The real punks are still out there, I promise. Its just about the spaces you're in, unfortunately. And to keep myself sane, if someone claims punk isn't about politics or don't recognize the black and brown and queer founders of the punk culture, I simply ignore them because they're just not punk. ANYWAY KIDS, keep organizing within your communities:)

As a punk, I sometimes feel invalidated for not being white and cis (I don't know if it's just me

Punk it's literally about not having rules, chaos and regecting mainstream media. I don't think you gotta be a radical leftist, just a person who does not give a single fuck... The movie 'SLC punk' represents very well what punk was about. It was just a bunch of dickheads stealing, doing drugs, angry and destroying property... And punk died when people started to put a style and label and rules on it.
K!?
I agree, there are certain influencers who dress "punk" i guess, but go on a shopping sprees as walmart and drive around in their teslas. one of them even got an anarchy tattoo. Like what-
bruhh, i bet they would say that it was a phase when its no longer a trend.

I agree with you, but I think that people shouldnt be excluded from punk because of their background. Sure, they might not understand some of the struggles. But if a rich person is actively activating for rights for the poor, then by all means, let them. People can't control their race or being cis or the financial background they were born into, but they can choose to make a stand for people less fortunate. As for people calling punk a "fashion style" or calling mainstream punk, they're completely uneducated and just taking a crap on the movement bc they didn't take the effort to look into punk.
totally get your point about what i said, but i meant *specifically* the ones that dont contribute at all and just say that theyre punk because they dress like that just to be "cool" and after say that it was just a phase. Thanks for giving your opinion and i completely agree with you.
