online:
- opt-out of data collection whenever possible
- don't use generative AI
- switch to a secure (read: end-to-end encrypted) form of online communication - this includes messaging apps, email, etc.
- connect any secure payment methods (like your income, banking apps, any form of pay-online bill) only to that secure email
- don't post too many details about yourself in online public spaces (including identifying features, your location/timezone, your chronic illnesses and/or disabilities)
- don't use cloud storage data services, invest in removable and portable storage (memory sticks, DVDs, CDs, external HDs)
- use secure passwords and do not put them in a public place - it should go without saying that you shouldn't be storing passwords in your browser or using google-generated passwords
- switch to a secure internet browser on all of your devices
- if you are able, get a VPN and use it
- disable or uninstall any AI assistants/features on all of your devices
- delete any mental wellness or menstrual trackers on your devices
- if you use a book tracking site, be careful of what you post and use one that doesn't track your personal data; prioritize smaller online book resellers, thrift stores, brick and mortar stores, secondhand and independent book stores over the big-A bookstore
- prioritize your anonymity: use high privacy settings if you MUST stay on certain apps/sites for any reason, but delete your data and opt out of those apps/sites whenever possible
- if you have Apple devices, disable Apple Intelligence
in public (especially when going out to certain events):
- wear neutral colours and brandless clothes
- cover tattoos/piercings
- don't put devices in airplane mode, turn the data off and power them off
- travel in groups
- don't speak to L-enforcement
- have an exit plan, make sure everyone in the group knows the exit plan, stick to the exit plan
- have a plan in case of detainment
- tell someone where you're going, what you're doing, when you expect to be done, and what they can do in the case you are not done by the expected time
in terms of health:
- wear a high-quality, well fitting N95/KN95/KF94 in all public spaces, not just indoor/crowded ones; and test for illness semi-regularly, not just in cases of potential exposures
- keep up with recall lists for consumable goods
- if you're someone who uses/needs birth control, use it every time and make sure you have a plan if you need refills - if you use the longterm (once/three months, once/x years) kind, get on that as soon as possible
- if you are able, find a trustworthy GP, pharmacist, and psych - they may be able to advocate on your behalf if you cannot
