My thoughts on the term acab (fuck the system, some cops are good)[edited]

Not all cops are bastards. A lot of people are bastards, and cops are people in power. There’s nothing more dangerous than a bastard in power. Cops as a whole aren’t bastards, the institution is. I know plenty of good cops (my father, for one though he’s cbp, so not the pulling people over and hitting protesters cop your thinking of). Some people would argue that all cops are bad for becoming cops in the first place. But think about it, not even 10 years ago the public perception of cops for the majority of America (correct me if I’m wrong, my perception of time is kinda warped due to the pandemic) was way better then today. So a lot of people probably became cops to do good, and they can’t just up and quit their jobs. But positions of power always attract bad people. The institution is what allows these bad people to cause so much harm in the first place.

I understood the reason this phrase exists. It’s exact, simple, something you can get a crowd to yell in unison. But everything in this stupid fucking world is gray. The only black and white thing you can depend on is the fact rape is bad.

I’m sure there’s someone way smarter than me who can word this way better, but that’s just my thoughts

Edit: I see opposing commenters points and will probably change my opinion on this. I don’t think I’ll ever be comfortable saying acab though (due to my dad). Also yeah, I’m probably kinda ignorant of this topic. I’m going to try not to be from now on.

ACAB doesnt mean, all cops are bastards because they're bad people, it means all cops are bastards because they work with and 4 the system, which we are against.

Personally I don’t get what some people mean with “ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS” either. It’s nonsense, they can talk about the police in their state, how they don’t do their job correctly and how TERRIBLE their system is. Nonetheless they seem to forget that there are almost 200 countries all across the globe, from which approximately 150, hire police officers because they are in big need of people, and the wrong people so happened to pass the entry exams.

These people are regular citizens aswell, from which a few are also getting tortured from higher ups every day. As a police officers, you can’t just “protest” against the system without losing everything at the same time. and here come the people “in the name of justice this is a small price to pay!” Do you not understand how hard it is to live with this dread on your back??? You’re gonna go out there, lose your job, burry your name in hatred from the government, live in constant misery, and all of that only because you so desperately wanted to change the cruelty in your country as a SINGLE person? Who’s gonna help you when everyone is scared of exactly that??

Let’s be realistic nobody would ever sacrifice EVERYTHING only for a 20/50 chance of changing 1% of the injustices in our society.

Do you.. do you even know what the system is?
All cops are bastards because they all willingly participate in a terrible system. No one is forced to be a cop. ALL COPS are bastards. I swear there should be an age limit on online political discussion

i feel like a lot of people read acab and come to the same conclusion as you, but youre not really reading the message behind it right

when we say acab we're saying that by participating in and upholding a system that serves primarily to enact violence against vulnerable groups you become the bastard that all cops are, and thats what the modern police system in all capitalist countries will inevitably serve to

Report Comment

in essence cops are vehicles for oppression, and by being a vehicle for oppression you become the enemy of all working class people

I did see a lot of people give their 2 cents about this idea but it's not the idea that bad people get into power and we can't trust them, because that will always be inherit when you have a power system. It's more of a hatrid for the system itself. Not the cop as an individual is bad (most time they do suck tho) Shortening of the statement "Becuase the system is corrupt, all cops MUST be bad"

I don't know about that. It's pretty common for punks to have parents in authority positions.

i don't disagree with that. i just think you can't be a cop supporter and a punk at the same time. all cops are shitty fucking people who support a corrupt system

ACAB isn't necessarily talking about the people but rather the system.
The police department originated from slave patrols who would patrol the streets to capture slaves who had escaped from their owners. Later it became the police department as we know it. So the police department is INHERENTLY racist since it is piggybacking off of the old laws and ideologies where African Americans didn't have any rights and there are probably people in power whose generations have went back to the time before the 13th amendment.
So if somebody is a cop, whether or not they're a good person, they are upholding the racist, misogynistic, (etc etc) system that will uphold the white man over every other person.
We do acknowledge the fact that there are obviously good cops, they are still following a terrible and rigged system without their knowledge, which is why we say ACAB.

the thing about acab is the system itself is inherently bad. everyone, EVERYONE, that takes a part of it is a part of the machine that wants to beat down working class folk and oppress minorities

The term ACAB is saying the system is bastardized, ie... the justice system is corrupt, not individuals, but the system overall.

Report Comment

well how is the system specifically fucked? i'm actually pretty unaware on the police system being bad, i thought the term came about due to a lot of cops being bigoted in some form or another

Laws, rules, and regulations are made to only benefit the 1% (people who have the most cash). Like imagine trying to create a new law to better humanity; youre in the senate, healthcare, overall entrepreneur. You have to have enough money, be high ranking, and beneficial to the other people at the top. Most good is filtered out with nationalism or a love for money/power.

Acab seems to be more than a usa issue than europe.
Yes there is going to be corruption and Problem oriented vs community policing.
The former being the issue than the latter.
less training + more corruption and things to go wrong.
ok maybe milits get a pass (knowing their land and surroundings) but you wouldn't trust your army to go in unprepared would you?

ACAB. the system is fucked, not just the individual people in it, therefor one ‘good’ cop doesn’t make up for everyone else and the system itself. Also, they all associate with each other whether ‘good’ or ‘bad’, ACAB by association.

ACAB because no matter how good of a cop you are, you're still working for a corrupt system that fucks over the homeless, the poor, romani people, etc.

In the UK most cops (in my experience) tend to be chill, but they're still enforcing corrupt laws that ultimately harm people. It doesn't matter how good of a cop you are, if I see you forcibly removing a homeless person from a public street because society has deemed them "unsightly" I'm still going to see you as a bastard.

That doesn't mean that I think people are wrong for joining and trying to make a change, they just need to keep in mind that they're going to be forced to commit immoral actions because that's just the nature of the job.

First off stick to your beliefs. Your point is valid. It's just as simple as some people when they get put in a position of power or authority they will abuse it. That's human nature, a tale as old as time. It would be like saying all black people criminals, or all religious people are violent extremists, all Mexican people are lazy, and so on and so on. You just say all are bad when it's definitely not the case. Go look at the little Wayne interview where he literally thanks a white cop for saving his life. The only reason you don't see all the good things the cops do that makes local news, is because that doesn't sell. Fear sells, fear always works better at driving a narrative or agenda. There's a lot of good cops out there and I'd even put my life on it and say that there's way more of them than bad.

Other people have already said it better but yeah regardless of the kind of person a cop is they are participating in a system that I and many others find abhorrent and doing terrible things.

I saw a post on tumblr just the other day where someone was talking about the nicest cop they ever met and how they did some very kind things (I don't remember the exact details) but they still went and destroyed a camp of homeless people a week later. Not because they just randomly wanted to of course, because it's their job. And anyone who keeps being a cop after that is a bastard in my book.

I'm glad to read that you understand it more. Obviously not all cops are bad but enough of them are that it is a problem. Its mostly a message to shout so that people realize the wrongdoing of many than an actual statement. This is not to hate on cops but rather to get rid of the ones that clearly should not be.
