This movie was absolutely breathtaking, I first watched it when I was 13 and loved it. I recently just watched it again two years later and I still love it. I love the amount of accurate native American representation in this movie. As well as with the British colonies. The only thing that isn't historically accurate about this movie is the love between Pocahontas & John Smith. According to my history teacher & professional historians they were more like brother and sister rather than lovers. So the only thing that I presume is fiction about this movie is the love story.
Even though the love story is fiction and not true it is absolutely INSANE. It makes me cry every time, I have never not cried whilst watching this movie. The amount of romance that goes on in this movie is so wild, and I've never watched a movie with this kind of love. Some people would say it's the live action version of Disney's Pocahontas but it really isn't, it's VERY different.
!!SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH BELOW IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS!!
When Pocahontas goes for John Rolfe instead of John Smith when she finds out he's still alive makes me want to RIP OUT MY HAIRRR. LIKE NOOOO PLEASSEEEE.... But it's obviously a historical movie so that never happened.
!!spoiler paragraph finished!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVEE the amount of native American representation in this movie, I always love learning their culture! Everything (other than the love story) is very accurate to what the natives were like, and the cast for the native Americans in the movie are actually native Americans! The Virginia Algonkian was spoken VERY well. The clothes are also very accurate as well as with the face paint.
As for the historical part on the British in this movie was also VERY accurate, the recording area was actually in Virginia. The outfits are literally SPOT ONNN, especially in the scene where they are with the king in Britain. Pocahontas outfit is exactly like her original outfit in the real life painting of her!!!!! That made me SOO happy!!!!
My favorite pictures from this movie:
My favorite quotes from this movie:
"Mother, where do you live? In the sky? The clouds? The sea? Show me your face. Give me a sign. We rise... we rise. Afraid of myself. A god, he seems to me. What else is life but being near you? Do they suspect? Oh, to be given to you. You to me. I will be faithful to you. True. Two no more. One. One. I am... I am." -Pocahontas
"He is like a tree. He shelters me. I lie in his shade." -Pocahontas
"There's something I know when I'm with you that I forget when I'm away." -John Smith
"I thought it was dream... what we knew in the forest. It's the only truth." -John Smith
"All the children of the king were beautiful, but she, the youngest, was so exceedingly so that the sun himself - though he saw her often - was surprised whenever she came out into his presence. Her father had a dozen wives, a hundred children, but she was his favorite. She exceeded the rest not only in feature and proportion but in wit and spirit too. All loved her." -John Smith
"You flow through me, like a river." -Pocahontas
"If only I could go down that river. To love her in the wild, forget the name of Smith. I should tell her. Tell her what? It was just a dream. I am now awake." -John Smith
Thank you for reading my movie rating this Sunday !!!
