Apparently soon there'll be a ban on a lot of social media sites in the country/continent of Australia, for people under 16 specifically. I don't know if it's literally EVERY SINGLE SITE but dang! I wish this was a thing worldwide. Being online at an early age has ruined how I interact with people IRL and it's so nice to know there'll be future generations who don't share the same fate. Plus, more kids are safe :D
There are downsides of course, like kids who are stuck at home having no way to interact with people. thats the whole reason I became chronically online to begin with! Hopefully they aren't hit too hard by the sudden shift because i wouldve hated that a LOT when i was 13.
I totally envy everything else about this, though!!!!!!!! plsplspls bring it to the states i'd kill for that disclaimer: i am legally oblinged to say that i would not kill for this

im very 50/50 on this happening- for the same reasons btw your points are great! tiktok, social media generally, etc. has completely RUINED a generation. genz is a big part of that sure, but the effect it has had on gen alpha is going to be studied so hard in the future. it already is now, just the way social media taints are perception of things: of politics, social norms, self image, what's okay and what's not, you know what i mean. it desentitises people to violence, the lack of respect i see from younger teens/children is so blatant now too. for that reason i'm for the banning-
but the flip side is also an interesting discussion. younger teenagers have more access to the outside world on the internet than they ever have. you don't have to live in the (often controlling/limited) bubble of your family and friends, you have the option to get a unique and varied perspective because of connection through the internet (which can also be a con because the internet can also lead impressionable people to deep, alt-right/left pockets that can be very dangerous).
im not like disagreeing I just think the topic is interesting. don't think America will be following any time soon unfortunately, but would really like to see a culture change in how we see the internet.

Maybe I'm too young to talk about it, but I'll give my opinion. Yes, social networks and the Internet in general are unsafe things. Even I, who don't communicate much on the Internet, have met enough inadequate people. But maybe I was just lucky, and the Internet directed me more into the "cognitive" area. If it weren't for certain people on the Internet, I probably would never have wanted to study geography, history or just learn something new.
As for unsafe things, to be honest, the first traumatic memories for me were the movies that my grandfather watched on TV. Well, I was just unlucky, and he himself is not a very good person. I learned about all the "bad" things not from the Internet, but mainly from my classmates. Of course, I saw a lot of bad things on the Internet, but mostly I was told about them from people around me
Although, maybe the Internet influenced me in that I began to focus more on cruelty. Like, a year or two ago at school we wrote a summary of fragments from the work "Young Guard". The work itself is quite frightening, because it tells about the activities of an underground organization of teenagers during World War II. I had a question "The activities of the members of this organization". The only thing I really remembered in detail was how they hanged a German policeman. And, is this Soviet literature? Is this the result of the influence of people around me? Or is my presence on the Internet to blame for this?
That's why I think that banning social networks is unlikely to help. If they don't find out from the Internet, they will find out from somewhere else. (I hope the translator will translate my thoughts correctly :(..
in short, i think that everyone needs to learn how to use the internet, a little bit of control and moderation wouldn't hurt at all, but it would be impossible to ensure security as such

I agree with this, and wish it was law in the 2010s when I was a child (though I think 15 is probably a better age). I should NOT have seen that freaky shit at age 9.

i can somewhat agree, being online at a young age had honestly messed with me me in ways such as desensitization and being exposed to very nasty people in my surroundings. I don’t know if every social media should be outright 100% banned but i do wish it was more supervised and moderated
If parents don't do their job sooner or later and actually moderate what their children are doing, then i'm for a full ban on it. the closest approximation i can think to this situation is alcohol? some parents allow their kids to have small SMALL amounts of the stuff. (i don't know how harmful that is in the long run, but it's generally perceived as a bad thing being eyed closely so kids don't Die.)
now imagine if parents let their kid run to the unregulated bourbon store that sells to minors, to spend their own money on drinks the adults don't know of. there's almost no distinction between that and what the web's like right now. :[

i accidentally replied to this comment with the comment i meant to send to the other comment AUGH
But yeah!! at the same time, we are kind of in a privileged position to be saying this, after we've experienced the internet young and can't be kicked off now xD

aw thank you so much!! I don't get compliments about it often, so that means a ton :) i see you've updated your page yourself and i like yours too! messy-looking sites are my fave.
also, yeah, still saw some traumatizing stuff myself, too. It's a webwide constant which SHOCKINGLY still happens today!! (i have a younger relative who stumbled upon unfavorable stuff. poor soul.)
