"Cultural appropiation" is a term that seems to reinforce racism instead of ending it as it claims. This term only happens worsens the hate towards other races enjoying other cultures, so I will explain why this keeps killing my brain cells.
My problem with this so-called anti-racism movement is how two-faced it is. To explain my point, I will use a very simple example:
- When a black person uses a kimono, it's okay because everyone is allowed to wear kimonos and race doesn't matter.
- Now, when a white person chooses to use braids it's racist because a hairstyle belongs to a race.
(I'm not going to lie, it looks off, but the amount of people claiming this to be an offense is absurd)
We're talking about a hairstyle. We're talking about braids. Hair is just hair, hairstyles don't belong to any race. You are allowed to do whatever you want to your hair but if you choose to use braids because you like it, you become racist for some reason.
And here I was, thinking hair has no gender but I guess it has race.
You don't need to be Mexican to enjoy Mexican food, you don't need to be Japanese to wear a kimono, you don't need to be black to enjoy braids. You don't need to be any race to enjoy any culture, a hairstyle has nothing to do with cultural appropiation and I think it's stupid.
I want to make a serious question to the people who believe in this... how does a hairstyle offend you as a person?
If you want to talk about real cultural appropriation, I recommend looking up that time Disney wanted to appropriate a Mexican national holiday when Coco came out, because that time they tried to take appropriation of an important day of a culture that did not belong to them.
Final conclusion: Cultural appropiation should be renamed to cultural appretiation. As long as you aren't harming anyone, do whatever you want. Nobody should be calling you "racist" for enjoying other cultures.

facts, I have seen people get shit for braids too when they are ALSO a nordic hairstyle. It's ok to take whatever you want from other cultures as long as you don't disrespect it. If I wear a sombrero because I really like it is one thing but if I start acring like a mexican caricature too then that's where the problem lies
I must say, you have a valid point. The problem is that it depends on the intentions with which it is done, because it is the hurtful intentions that do the real damage. Satire and mockery can be subtle ways to cause harm either accidentally or on purpose.
