Unsure if 'girlcore' is a real term, but i made it up to encapsulate all the Girl stuff. I think it started with hot girl summer, and that was a fine and fun little thing, but it's grown into girl math, girl logic, girl this, girl that, Girls want This Product! Girls want to go Here! The fashion Girlies, the pop girlies, i'm Just a Girl, Girl jobs, all of that stuff.
A lot of these girlcore memes or videos are meant to be lighthearted, but they're also often a tad infantilizing (you're not a girl, you're a woman for one thing. you wouldn't typically call adult men 'boys' because it infantilizes them) and sometimes lean into 'traditinal gender roles', such as the number of videos where women talk about how they would actually rather go back to 1950s housewife scenarios because it's 'easier' than having a job. A lot of these memes also end up promoting products (tumblr im looking at you and your 'Girls don't want flowers. Girls want rings that can turn into SPHERES. wow! here's a link to the Product!').
The conotation of putting 'girl' in front of something is that it lessens it to some degree. You can make memes about doing math in terms of shopping for clothes or frivolus things Without associating it with girls or feminity- then it just turns into the age old Women be Shopping steryotype.
The word 'girlies' especially icks me out for some reason. It feels kind of weird to be calling grown women Girlies, again, it seems infantilizing. 'Girl jobs' are apparently not 'real jobs', continuing to disregard women's work as lesser than men's work.
A lot of the girlcore memes also tend to refer to women as a homogenous group, which they are not.
Also it's annoying. stop it
TL,DR: Girlcore memes infantilize women, tend to try to sell you something, enforce old steryotypes about women, and erase women's indivual identities. u guys are literally doing the opposite of feminism
To be clear: traditionally girly stuff and fashion is great! i love fluffy skirts and color pink and feminine aesthetics (i'm a lesbian). What i have a problem with is how people use these specific memes to do all the stuff i just mentioned in the tldr
I dress pretty fem because fem clothing is more fun, but I was raised very gender neutrally and i'm nonbinary so I usually don't relate to all the girl stuff. but if someone ever calls me girlie im genuinely going to bite them idk what it is about girlie specificlaly that I don't like so much but i do NOT like it
