I've calmed down about the election and just came to a realization about why Harris REALLY lost as bad as she did, it wasn't because "she's a woman" or "america is full of racists".
It's because her campaign and candidacy was absolutely terrible.
Found this article about the aftermath and they kinda hit the nail on the head, tbh felt like everyone was kinda huffing their own farts after Biden was replaced and felt we had it in the bag (including me, though even if Biden was still running dems would've lost just as bad) honestly think just putting her there instead of having a proper primary heavily damaged any chance of victory, though it was made worse by her campaign basically hinging on people supporting abortion and finding Trump worse than her instead of focusing more on economic issues and how she'd be different than Biden (plus trying to appeal towards republicans heavily soured on liberals, her campaigning with and parading the endorsements of the Cheneys was such a dumb fucking idea and one of the worst moves I've seen, plus it didnt even work so like, fuck)
Someone in the article mentioned that someone like Gretchen Whitmer or Roy Cooper would've been a better candidate (and have ran a better campaign) and that 100% tracks, having a proper primary would've made winning more easy instead of having Biden run again and trapping Dems in a really bad spot.
Fully expecting the party to pivot more to the center and tbh we will deserve it, people thought the party was too far left because of the always-online leftists and because of people like AOC (as much as I like her), so expect someone like Andy Beshear or Josh Shapiro in 2028
Going forward they need to focus way less on the identity politics nonsense (theres a reason that left-leaning people are stereotyped as being easily offended and obsessed with pronouns and labels) and talk more to the people about issues they care more about, the average person doesn't really care about "the state of democracy" or "zionists", they care more about inflation and putting food on the table.
Saying this as someone who considers himself pretty left-wing (social democrat) but that's just the truth, the average voter isn't THAT left-wing, at most socially they're center or center-left
though adopting more left-wing populist economic policies could still work pretty well, it's why Bernie appealed to so many people.

It's nice to see a post that is not calling Americans stupid lol
It also put into words something that I've been trying to say; most Americans care about inflation and putting food on the table. It's very important for the democrats to sober up and get their act together, so that we don't have to deal with someone as bad as trump next time.
I just hope the environment doesn't go down the drain before trump leaves.

This is a great post, and something I admittedly needed to read. It is still disappointing since I did believe she would have a pull on more of the median voters. She's not exactly popular with people on the left for catering more right-leaning, something I believe also didn't work in her favor as well. I know the state of the economy is important, it's something I think about every day as I come closer and closer to graduating university. But it's baffling to me how the people voting seemed to stake their faith in Trump who, sure, touched more on an economic plan than she did, but an economic plan so incredibly flawed and frowned upon by many economists. People were more willing to stake their faith in that plan by exchanging the well-being of so many people.
