a poem about lying in the sun

I Like It Hot

I like it hot

I like to lie on the burning crimson ceramic

While my dog sits in the shade, watching warily

I bake like a pancake

And fry like a fish in a hot greasy pan

I stretch like a colourful lizard

Warming up my iron deficient body

I like to feel the heat of the sun

It makes my skin ripple and stretch

Like the dancing air behind the fire

I like to pretend im tanning

Even though im going to be bright red

I like to think about how I look lying there

The sun glinting off my jewellery

Does it make my hair look golden?

Does it make my eyes sparkle?

Do i look like a nymph, relaxing in apollos gaze?

Unlikely.

I look like a girl lying on the red tiled stoep, getting burnt with her dog.

And thats chill.
