Throne and Liberty Early Access!!!

meowzers,,, idk if y'all have heard because the demographic here doesn't seem like they'd be interested innit, but... ! it's the end of day 2 for Throne and Liberty early access being out for the non-paying folk! (i think those who paid were able to play like a week early idk i just kept seeing streams on tiktok). here are my very off-topic thoughts regarding the game:

i usually HATE mmorpgs because they take soooo long to get anywhere, then they start adding dailies and shit to keep making you play, which can make it feel like more of a chore than an enjoyable experience, and microtransactions. this game plays like ffxiv and wow and i usually dislike that genre even more than normal mmorpgs like maplestory or grand chase or lunia or something cause the combat is so slowwww (google says global cooldown (gcd) combat). it puts me to bejj

but i'm currently enjoying it! there's nothing outstanding about it that i haven't already seen in other games (like the aforementioned or guild wars 2), but y'know... it's different... it's like when companies make different ARPGs (Diablo, Grim Dawn, PoE, Last Epoch). they're barely that much different from each other other than IP but like... it's still fun to play regardless... different themes and systems =3=...

i don't particularly have any expectations from the game, but i have a drive to at least reach the max level of 50 (or until i get bored of going through the main story questline like with Lost Ark). i'm curious to the capabilities of what my class can do (Templar, pure focus on Healer atm).

interestingly, i don't think the demographic audience is children. i guess that makes sense from the art. i suppose it's just weird to think of a popular online game to release and not think about a younger demographic, especially when i'm usually the youngest person i use as a reference point. it's also become a common courtesy for Guilds to have dedicated discord servers. the one i joined has an age range role, and we're largely 21-29 years old.

although, thinking about it more, GCD combat games probably don't have strong retention for younger audiences (which is why i DROPPED them all the time). mmos also come with a certain complexity to them via gear system and whatever other mechanic they have in that game. i only just recently learned how gear works in Maplestory when I finally joined a guild last year and asked questions. comparing my previous characters, i was pretty lost. you really gotta invest time into these things...

i dunno. to each their own i guess. there's always a player from younger demographics no matter how small... they exist... it used to be me...
