For starters, I used to be on t****k because I was pretty bored during the pandemic, but then the app got really divided amongst its users and I've deleted the account. I still browse it on the computer because it's the only place where you don't have to sign up.
(Also, I've put this under blogging because I don't think I'd fare well with the news and politics section of this site 😖)
So to begin with, I was scrolling through YouTube's recommended (bad idea) and somehow a news video popped up where one of the street signs in Makati named after Gil Puyat, a senator during the Marcos regime (I think Puyat is a good guy), was changed to "Gil Tulog Ave". You see, "puyat" means sleepless in Filipino, and "tulog" means sleep in Filipino.
So what was the goal of the person/people who changed the sign? To promote melatonin gummies. And boy, some people didn't like it, including the great-granddaughter of Gil Puyat himself.
Fortunately, the sign(s) were taken down, and the brand behind it, let's just call it Brand W, apologized. But it gets weirder...
If you've observed something in the link I've posted, you can see most of them were from t****k, but when I went to the site to see them for myself, oh boy, there's another brand of melatonin gummies who made fun of Brand W's misfortune. Brand G posted a t****k (I'm not gonna link it) where a drawing of the street sign where Gil Puyat is supposed to be is blank, with these words: "Bad decisions come from lack of sleep, try [our gummies] for better rest and better choices."
Not gonna lie, Brand G literally roasted Brand W.
