Over the last few months, the common sentiment among American liberals has been that "Biden isn't great, but he's harm reduction to combat Trump" or "Biden is the only candidate that will prevent fascism in America," and that we should just "Vote Blue No Matter Who," just vote harder they say. But pragmatism doesn't exist when both candidates are absolutely unacceptable! No matter who becomes president, the American working class loses. Both serve the capitalist class, both represent the same basic interests, but one exerts America's imperialist tendencies outwards, the other will turn it inwards. With Biden's recent speech following the NATO summit, it's clear where the democrats stand: Provocation towards China and the mobilization of the economies of the US, Europe, and Pacific allies towards the next world war. These tendencies act like the first law of thermodynamics, in the capitalist system of the US, these warmongering and imperialist tendencies are not destroyed, rather redirected. If Trump were to win, maybe the US would recluse a bit internationally, but that oppressive, imperial might has to be subjected somewhere, and that somewhere is directly into the working classes of America's lives. Either way, we suffer. Trading one form of suffering for another form of suffering isn't pragmatism. Pragmatism was the French united front to prevent the far-right from being elected.
The American political system cannot be reformed into something more desirable by working with the two pre-selected parties. The US administrative system is unique to that of the European parliament, making it especially difficult for a third party to get anything done, but that in and of itself should radicalize you into seeking forms of dual power and creating/participating in organizations that can replace this god-awful system. Genuinely ask yourself, what freedom is this two party system when you have so little influence over policy and the actions of the government? Both parties represent capital. Both parties are bought by shareholders. One will stab you in the chest with a twisted grin, the other will backstab you and call blame to the other.
"Voting harder" won't get us anywhere, only organization towards something new. Not a single person I know is satisfied with the political situation in the US right now, let it radicalize you and let it guide you towards educating yourself on what the future could hold.
