Scene(core) survey

Rock On

Hey y'all! before I list any questions, I wanna give some background first :-)

Okay, first off in case we haven't met, nice to meet you! I'm Leon, or Leon Lawless for long xD.

okay now that we know eachother... I'm wanting to do a YouTube/BitView video on what the scene subculture is, and I want to have as educated of an opinion as possible, so what better thing to do than ask other members of the subculture? (please dont answer this if you dont actively participate/haven't participated in it at some point)

Ill also be touching on scenecore, and what members of the scene think of it (i havent decided if it'll be the same video or not)

anywho, question time ^_^

1. Do you consider the scene to be fashion-based, music-based, or lifestyle-based? or a combination of more than one? Why do you think that?

2. What do you consider scene music?

3. What are your opinions on scenecore? Do you consider them to be posers, or valid members of the subculture?

4. Do you call yourself scene, scenecore, or something else?

5. Do you believe there are certain beliefs required to be scene? (Think: anti cringe culture, anti bigotry, focusing on kindness, focusing on sustainability, etc.)

6. Finally, do you want to share any thoughts and opinions that I haven't included a prompt for? please let me know, any information helps :-)

Thanks so much for your time, I'll let you guys know when the video drops! Much love, Leon out >B-)

HI im Eli its also nice to meet you.

1. To answer your first question, I'd say that scene is both music AND fashion base although in my opinion it definitely leans towards fashion. Many music groups could be considered scene but i wouldn't say there's not an exact genre for it. You don't have to listen to the music to be considered a scene kid :p

2. I consider scene music to be grouped in with 2000s emo/punk/post-hardcore bands but as i said earlier there's not an exact music genre for scene kids to listen to.

3. I think that scenecore is a category of itself if that makes sense haha, scenecore is just the aesthetic of the subculture. The music is also pretty different with artists such as 6arelyhuman, Rebzyyx, and Syko being labeled as "scenecore". I wouldn't say they are posers but they're definitely not grouped in with scene kids

4. It's hard to say, I like to believe I'm a mix of well..everything! I'm very much into goth, scene, and mcbling! With my fashion my music taste also varies :3

5. With the new rise of scene kids coming about I 100% believe that everyone should be kind and accepting of each other, we're all loser outcasts so there's no reason to spread bigotry within the subculture despite it not being political based.

HAII!!! I am Val ^_^ Nice 2 meet u too!!!!
1: I consider scene 2 be mostly music and fashion based. Wouldn't make sense 2 go up to sum1 dressed as Adam Sandler nd go "I'm scene!!!" right?? At least in my opinion!!! I don't think the music is an ABsolute must, I'm sure there were some sceniez back in teh day that didn't like 3OH!3 or Millionares, or jst teh topics themselves...but listening to teh music does help lots!! Teh lifestyle, too! I haz an ipod nano tht I love to DEATH!!!
2: I consider scene music to be anything dating from 1990's to 2012 at most!! But, sure, ther can be sum flexibility!!!
3: Scenecore isn't my thing... I don't have much respect for it, but I appreciate how teh peepz took something great and made it their own thing!! Nuttin' wrong with taht!! :)
3: I'm still merging being scene into meh life, so that's what I'd consider myself, but realistically I'm still getting there! For example, I have to wait for my hair to grow out just another inch or two 2 b able to do teh scene cut...x( It's a real drag! But I've been investing in teh fashion, and since I'm making an effort to be scene, I'd say that's what I am!!
5: I think things like being anti-cringe culture help fosho!! I think any1 could realistically believe wat they want tho, but things like not being homophobic or being in on cringe/cancel culture helpz in my opinion ^_^
6: Nah, nuthin' rlly! I dn't really have anything else 2 mention off the top of my head, but I probably have other thoughts I just haven't thought of!! xD Thx 4 havin' me!! *Passes mic back*

1. i consider scene to be all 3, but mostly fashion-based compared to the other 2, especially lifestyle. you can do/be part of one of the 3 and still be scene, but i think a combination of the three (more importantly fashion and music) help tie it together.

2. lots of music that kind of spawned off of other emo/alt genres. personally some stuff like nightcore come to mind which i think helped create hyperpop. i see femtanyl as a really good example of any alt group's kind of music because it always has at least one or more elements of another kind of alt music, and i think femtanyl and most "scene music" have higher pitches and faster speeds in common, overall just really hyper music. a lot of late 2000's internet music regardless of whether they spawned from memes or not are a part of this too

3. i think scenecore's not necessarily either in or out of scene itself, it's kind of like a middle ground or a way to ease into being scene. i think it depends on what scenecore people themselves think about who they are or want to be

4. i'd say i'm more scenecore, i like scene music and a lot of things that got popularized by early scene kids, but i don't really ever try to dress super heavily into one aesthetic, i just borrow a lot from grunge and scene

5. scene is a lot like punk and grunge in some way because they're all styles/aesthetics that really spawned from cultural ideas and statements on society. punk was all about going against what was normal and fighting for your own true beliefs, and grunge leaned into that in some other areas by making fun of overproduced glam rock, and so bands around the area made fun of them and their members by yelling and playing whatever music they could as loud and rough as possible (which became ironic because i think a lot of later grunge becomes glam rock anyways), but scene is more about the death of cringe culture more than anything. like most alt and punk groups, being scene doesn't require but usually includes you fighting for things that you personally care about and things that trouble you in the world, regardless of what the majority think, which is super cool bc it ties back into scene mostly being about the death of cringe culture

6. i don't really think so. anyways for everyone watching at home subscribe to augustleded on yt and add my spacehey

Hey Leon, coming from an ex-scenester who still appreciates the culture, I'd like to give my two cents XD

1. I'd like to consider the scene to be both music and fashion-based. Obviously, the scene IS ALL ABOUT THE LOOK, but it also comes down to the music because how it all started was the music and how the musicians looked for the most part B)
2. I consider subgenres like Metalcore, Crunkcore, and Pop-punk scene or "scene" music :3
3. My opinions on scenecore are pretty tame, I would think. I don't think they really belong in the subculture because it isn't truly what the scene is as a whole, but I do like the aspects of it when people who consider themselves Scenecore try to make something new with what the scene already is :D In short, I think Scenecore is cool but not actually valid in the subculture
4. Currently, as my status as goth, no, I do not call myself scene (obvii), but when I was part of the subculture, yes, I called myself scene (I WAS SICK OF BEING CALLED EMO AND STILL AM)
5. I don't think certain beliefs are required to be scene, as there weren't very many to begin with, unlike punk or goth. I do think it's important to acknowledge basic principles all alternative people (including scene kids) should have which is just to be a decent person and consider other's feelings :3 (NOT DAHVIE VANITY DO NOT CONSIDER HIS FEELINGS)
6. I don't have many other thoughts to include; thanks for reading, tho! I have this link to a beginner's guide to scene culture if you'd like to include in your YouTube video :3 I made it a long time ago and it may be a little dated ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wI3KTQOQGFwCpd0tgDvIjIzYoKTeIRmerj9FsJgdgH8/edit?usp=sharing )
