CW: Spoilers for Cheesyhfj's ONE
ONE
Watched this with my partner a few hours ago (as of the time of writing the Cohost post). It was late so I had to take some time to process it
ONE is a series in the vein of something that I've realized I needed more of only recently and that is media that I find very hard to watch for good reason; many of the characters were insufferable, and many of the scenes were unbearable, both in the best ways possible for the narrative. I loved this. This was worth every moment of my time
Airy is on the Kyubey scale for me, even if low: He's sociopathic and couldn't possibly learn the true nature of the hurt he's putting onto people. In my mind he reads as "power corrupts" though I do think to some extent he's given up caring at the point he's at. Very nice character
I get Abstracty, though he was hard to watch. I hate Moldy and still do after making it up with the rest of the crew stranded on the Plane but I think she was handled the best way she could've been and I did like that
My biggest complaint about the entire show was how Stone literally strongarmed the entire plot; sure, he's the reason the plot is so interesting, but he's the *only* reason; without him, none of season 2 would've happened. His gimmick of knowing way too much felt overbearing, and from the moment he got called in his presence clouded the entire rest of the story. Glad a few of these points were in to make the lore more clear and interesting but I think it could've been done interestingly, or that the clues were a bit more vague. Also idk what the note that read "5" was supposed to mean
I remember many people saying the ending was disappointing, but honestly I don't think there's a better ending that doesn't ruin what we've got. Liam being stranded, Airy dying out of nowhere, Airy and Liam's dynamic in general, everything with the Plane from the outside, etc. Beautiful ending to a long story where every episode was heart wrenching, even the ones with the extreme tonal whiplash. I even love the detail of Airy's personal afterlife
When episode 9 is playing with the proper background music it is a bit more interesting. I didn't listen too closely but I don't think it would've hit the same
