[DISCUSSION] why are people so afraid to talk to people of a certain age?

why are people so afraid to talk to people of a certain age? i know that some people just have boundaries, but not everyone is going to be creepy or weird. i understand not wanting to talk to anyone under the age of 13, because, well, the law. but, there's nothing wrong with being friends with adults. if you think every single adult or anyone above a certain age is a pedophile, that's a little bit weird...

i'm 17. more than half of my friends are adults. none of them have tried anything creepy with me. yes, i've had bad experiences with adults in the past, but that was just one bad apple and it hasn't happened again since then. why? because not everyone is a creepo!

because i have adult friends, i have learned so much more about life and i've matured so much since then.

one time, i had one of my friends approach me, saying "would you still wanna be friends with me after i turn 18?" and i mean, of course i would! age does not factor anything in my friendships with anyone! hell, one of my friends outside of the internet is in her 40s and has two kids! and then there's my dad, he's 53 and he's one of my best friends! none of them have tried anything creepy with me!

and this isn't to dismiss anyone above 18 that wouldn't want to interact with anyone below that age. in my eyes, though, anyone around 18-19 is still a kid. not everyone is going to immediately mature as soon as they become a legal adult, but that is just my opinion. but, i will always respect anyone who would like to make the decision to not want to talk to anyone that's a minor; it's their online space and their decision to allow or to not allow something.

i just think that people should be more civil on the internet so everyone can have a positive online experience, and being afraid of a specific group of people really isn't going to help. but in the end, it's always the person's choice and i will not bother them if they choose to make that decision. but i'm just half-awake and rambling here.

please do not be hostile in the comments or try to debate me. i would like this to be a safe and civil discussion. thank you.

I agree with you! I think it's actually very beneficial to talk to older people especially about live, work, that type of thing. Sure I guess if you're like 14 but still, talking to your parents and maybe getting an outside view of what older people think! I had a talk to a like 70 year old librarian and it literally changed my whole world view and life (I was also stoned so that probably made it even more mindblowing). A lot of us get lost in thoughts when we should really be living life and that's why it's good to have that older person to give you insight and get you back on track!

true!! we're always worrying about morality, when we should just be. not worrying about that stuff all the time. normal people aren't doing that; normal people are flying kites or doing ket...
