Sex work is exploitive; this shouldn't be a controversial statement to make, but with "choice-feminism" making its rounds once again, it has to be reiterated and stressed again how it is so. The key word is "work". To sell your labour in order to survive, to eat, to drink, to clean, to keep warm- is exploitive. Especially when we live under governments who expect us to do so whilst earning a minimum wage which we, of course, understand is not enough. Many left-leaning individuals- dare I say, largely cis men- have a fantastical perspective of sex work, where women (only sometimes) are more than happy to sell sex. Let me make this clear; nobody sells sex, their body, and their time, because they have a passion for it. An argument I have heard men make is that it "benefits" men, also. How bizarre. To think that there are men who call themselves socialists or even communists, who believe that men (social outcasts, the disabled, the old, etc.) are deserving of the female form on demand, is deeply concerning. This is why I stress the importance for feminist talk more and more, as we seem to stray away from doing so in wake of the infamous TERFs, rad-fems, and SJWs. Liberal, surface-level, choice feminism will not liberate women. Especially in the case of women of colour; you can stress that the white women who sell content on OnlyFans are doing what they enjoy, liberated, free in their sexuality, and not at all exploited (debatable), but then you must consider women who are not white, who are perhaps immigrants, who are sought after in a frenzy of orientalism, who are coerced into and abused in the sex industry. Even if it were the miraculous case of these women choosing, happily, to sell sex- and here lies the issue- your choices have implications. You are not entitled to make harmful choices. This is where liberal feminism fails; in the lack of consideration for why women experience a false sense of liberation through their own choices, often meant to be satirical, but end up serving patriarchy once again.
SW is Exploitive (argue with the wall!) (another ramble)
