So apparently people genuinely think monopolies are a good thing?

I am taking a marketing class right now and one of the papers I had to read argued that monopolies are a good thing. The article talked about how monopolistic behaviors result in higher quality work and more efficient work. That's just kind of a lie. Firstly, the whole goal of capitalism being that competition drives companies to do better is a scam. It has never resulted in that it has actually done the opposite. I won't get into that here. Monopolies are a bad thing because your giving total power to one entity. This entity only cares for empowering itself. You do not become more powerful by supporting competition and making higher quality products. You become powerful by knocking out the competition and up charging people as much as possible for the cheapest and fastest to make products until they start dying. When you have a monopoly you make things cost insane ammounts because theres no other option. People have no chance to save and thus no chance to rival your power. People have no choice but to live paycheck to paycheck if your monopoly is strong enough. You cannot sit here and tell me that monopolies are a good thing.
