Survey Day 1 + Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

As I said in my first post, a lot changed for me in 2023. No sense in mourning the old, though, when you're about to start something new! Like the 5000 Question Survey!

Like I said, I'll be doing 10 questions a day for 500 (!) days. If you want the original form orĀ  the reformatted version I made, comment or DM me!

1. Who are you?
That's what I'm doing this survey to find out, isn't it?

2. What are the 3 most important things everyone should know about you?
I'm a writer, I'm from Texas, and I use he/she pronouns. They're not super interesting, but they are important.

3. When you aren't filling out 5,000 question surveys like this one what are you doing?
I want to say writing or drawing, but to be honest, it's been hard to get the motivation to do either lately. I have a lot of projects I work on on and off, whether it's a book, an album, a movie, a video game, or something else entirely, and it's hard to commit to just one or even finish it. So I'm usually chipping away at one of those projects or calling my friends.

4. List your classes in school from the ones you like the most to the ones you like the least (or if you are out of school, think of the classes you did like and didn't like at the time).
I'm in college right now and this next semester hasn't started yet, so I'll answer for the "traditional" classes.
English - Loved this and still love this. I never got the whole "the curtains were fucking blue" meme because overthinking is in my nature lol
Spanish - I loved this too because Spanish comes easily to me. I didn't grow up in a Spanish-speaking household, it's just fun to learn a new language really
Art - I went to a small high school and we couldn't afford an arts program, but I wanted to include this anyway. It was fun in middle school, but I remember there being a lot of drama when we did class critiques
Math - Heavily depends on which kind of math. For most kinds I can do math fine, but geometry sucks and I hate it and I want to kill it
AVID - We had a program called AVID where we basically learned better study skills and how to apply to colleges and stuff. It was lame. We had weekly tutoring sessions that did help, but it was just a hassle to go through
Social studies - I don't think I've ever had a good social studies teacher. All I can think of are Mrs. Lanford, who retired literally in the middle of class and didn't tell anyone, and Mrs. (I forget her name), who gave me a 60 on a project I worked all night on. That and I live in Texas, so all the history textbooks are very biased and heavily censored. This got dark
Science - Can't stand it. All the worst parts of math combined with the memorization involved with classes like social studies. I think the worst part is I do like science and it should be super interesting to learn about, but teachers manage to suck all the joy out of it

5. What is your biggest goal for this year?
Finding my own happiness. These past few years, my definition of happiness has revolved around other people and what's most convenient for them. This year, I want to prioritize my own needs and identity. I haven't been single since I was 15, so being one half of a couple has been a core part of my identity during my adolescence, and I want to change that.

6. Where do you want to be in 5 years?
Out of college, working in a library, getting my first book published.

7. What stage of life are you in right now?
Young adulthood, I guess? I'm 20.

8. Are you more child-like or childish?
I want to say I'm more child-like. I remember last night I went to sleep early, and I happened to wake up just before midnight. I got up and watched the fireworks and I remember feeling just like I did when I was a kid.

9. What is the last thing you said out loud?
I don't really remember, probably when I told my brother to show me something later because I went to take a shower.

10. What song comes closest to how you feel about your life right now?
That's a good question. One that keeps coming to mind is Vicarious by TOOL. After I started reading Chuck Palahniuk, I felt myself become more honest with myself and my fatalistic tendencies, and a lot of my art lately has been about the parts of human nature people don't like to acknowledge about themselves; for example, the morbid voyeurism mentioned in Vicarious. I mean this all in the least nihilistic way possible, by the way, it really is interesting.

That's it for today! TTFN!
