What does it mean to be a genius?

Have you ever wondered what does it like being genius? Well, I can tell you what it means to me to be one.

There have been many people who most would consider "geniuses", whether it be writers, or scientists, or politicians. If i agree with calling them that or not is not the point. Personally, my favorite example of a genius is...Agatha Christie. I have read her books- full of mystery and excitement, no wonder so many future stories of other authors try to adapt whatever was going on in her books! Of course, one of the most influential of them all is "And Then There Were None". Reading it fulfilled me with not as much the desire to find the culprit as the thrillness of reading the mystery itself, how it turned out perfectly. The culprit(I will not spoil the identity, do not worry) made a perfect game of mind-wrenching horror and puzzlement from the "players" side. The thought that crosses you mind while reading the story is "the culprit is the genius!". That is true; how they organized the whole "set" was truly amazing and I was astonished by how smoothly everything went, how certain tricks worked and how the culprit was able to adapt to unexpected situations.

But let us not forget. What we call "genius" is not just a character, but the author themselves. Imagine coming up with this perfect crime scene and getting to execute it no matter what accidents may happen along the way, succeeding in the end. You may say, of course they might seem genius; in the end, what happened in the story did not happen in reality, hence it does not really count- the author is in the control of the story. Nevertheless, I cannot fully agree. While yes, they are in control of what is going on, it only discounts if everything goes just as planned. Authors who stay true to their job realize that not everything can be conventional. A genius will find a way to get what they want to matter the inconveniences. In any unfortunate situation they may find a way out; something that might just increase their chances. It is an ability to observe and understand a situation, understanding how and when to act, whom to rely on and how to escape unfortunate events.

Most of this is related to crime/detective stuff, but often times you can see through the text and see the person who came up with a wonderful story. It's just easier to give you an idea of what I mean through literature. Of course, in something like science some point are not valid, but the end point is the same: observation and the according action depending on the observed, while presenting something that no one else have noticed. This is who you may call a genius.

It is just easier to forget this while reading a detective novel, for example.

A "genius" is definitely not anyone who uses Spacehey, Twitter, or TikTok.

why do you think so?

being a genius takes time…. we adapt to changing times….. seems a bit shortsighted to say geniuses don’t use social media…. i see the thought process but you’ve lost me here.
